This blog brings attention to my reflections about my Research Paper that I am currently writing. Included below is my process of my writing and how it aided me over these pass weeks. The video Reflective Writing guided me on how to properly reflect on my writing. Who did you work with to compose your research paper? Was this a good approach? I worked by myself, but I did watch the film again with my friend Shalina to get her feed back on the movie. I do think that it was a good approach. What rhetorical mode and genre are you using? The rhetorical mode is part persuade and to inform my audience. The genre I am using is Textbook with a splash of Realistic Fiction. When did you write this project? Good approach? I wrote this project on April 14th. Yes I think it was a very good approach. Where did you write this project? Good approach? I wrote this project in my bedroom, laying across the bed listening to Jazz vibes on Spotify. Also with some herbal refreshment to help with get my creative juices flowing. Yes i was a good approach. Why did you choose to write about your chosen topic? Good choice? I chosen to write about this topic because I never in my life saw a jail that looks like a hotel in the inside. And I never saw people who committed raps, murders, robbery's etc, being treat so nicely. With them living in condition like in the outside world. Also I didn't know that the actual concept came from America's constitution. The rule of "No cruel and unusually punishment. And that is exactly how they treat inmates in American jail. So that goes against the rules the America set for itself and needs follow their own rules. And yes I think it was awesome choice, because nobody will have my topic. How did it feel to write this argument ("during, after, and since")? Do you have any "if only" moments that can help you revise the draft? During- I felt empowered to being to bring light to this alternative way of rehabilitation for people who get put in jail. It was kind of surreal to be writing about some fairy tale, of how inmate do their time living in hotels or on some vacation resort. Also thinking to myself like, i want to go to jail too you to relax, get ya mind right, focus of yourself with no bills to pay. It blew my mind that the guards didn't have guns to protect themselves. But I guess when your in a vacation resort you don't want to get kicked out. After- I felt like I did something good. Like I am giving people something to talk about, spark a different keep of thought in the minds of the masses. Since- I felt like i need to go back in my research paper and give it some more action. How will you revise your argument? I will revise my argument by making it more of an argument. Go back an put some of the things people would say to that don't believe in alternative rehabilitation and treating people like humans not like animals. Moore, Michael. Where to Invade Next. Performance by Michael Moore, WHERE TO INVADE NEXT - YouTube, 12 Feb. 2016. In the film by Michael Moore called Where to Invade Next - YouTube. Michael Moore takes a quest to help America out of turmoil. It fictitious portrays the U.S military and U.S government outsourcing Micheal Moore's help to Invade foreign soil. Because their should still be something to take from these countries, to bring back to the states. So off he goes to invade these countries in the quest for resources and ideas to take back to the U.S. When invading these countries he will be shocked and amazing to find out that some of ideas and law are inspired by the U.S. As for my resources from the DCCC library database : Nilsen, Arne Kvernvik. “Punish with Dignity.” New Scientist. 9/17/2016, Vol. 231 Issue 3091, p20-21. 2p. 1 Color Photograph. These resources will support the fact that alternative approach's to jail rehabilitation can be accomplished by treating inmates like human being with dignity and respect. What also housing the inmates in private dorms like cells, with there keys like at home. Understanding that inmates are already being punished by having their taking away. So that choose to rehabilitate with respect, dignity, kindness, love and honor. And with these ingredients a person can be rehabilitated and not return to jail again. Here is a link to Where to Invade Next, summary and here is a link to my blog post #9 summary-and-rhetorical-analysis-of-where-to-invade-next.html Topic: Comfortable Living Conditions for inmates while they do their time in jail. Research Question: Should or Should not America's prison system jail make living conditions more comfortable and private for inmates? Argument: Should or Should America prison system make living conditions more comfortable and private for inmates? Well I think they should make living conditions more comfortable and private. Because even though they have committed a crime they should live in conditions that their use to. They should be treated like human beings, not like animals by putting them cages. They should have good food to eat and creative ways to spend their time in jail. Because it would therapeutic for their mind and soul to prepare them to be implemented back into society. It was mind blowing to see in the film W.T.I.N that, inmates were living in should lavish conditions. There living conditions were as if they were still living in outside world. They had things like an Xbox game console, Flat screen TV's, private bathrooms and the kicker was that they had their own keys to there cells or in this case their apartments. It was as if they were living independently and had total control of their environment. Also let not forget that the biggest comfort for the inmates is that the guards don't carry weapons, instead they will talk to you like a civilized person. And the guards are not beating up inmates viciously. Well the reason's why the America jail system wouldn't make living condition comfortable and private. Is because their in the business of making money. The prison system is big business in America. A lot of money made from jails in the U.S, which is one of the biggest money makers. They brutalize and torture people in jail. They do this by breaking you down mentally, physically and financially. So that you can be so broken down that you will only feel comfortable in those conditions, making you a repeated offender to make more money of your back. With all that cheap labor and hours put in that are making millions. Also in America your suppose to be getting punished for your crimes and have all human privileges stripped away. So you can remember not do a crime again, but what it does is brainwash people to come back. And the guards will for sure have guns to protect themselves, because your perceived to be an animal and inhuman. Which doesn't help with reform, but helps with your return customers making the jail system more richer. Also they will never give inmate there on keys to their cells because it would cause chaos and mayhem. And they wouldn't being able to control the inmate like animals, because when you keep something or someone in a cage they must be dangerous. Topic: Should Americans study their "true" past history and upbringings about how America was started and build? Research: Question: Should Americas study in school their true racist / slavery roots, Like Germany did in the film "W.T.I.N" about their Nazi and extermination of one demographics and in order for the them not continue repeat the past history and to bring the country as one? Argument: Should or Should not Americans study in school their true racist and savage roots, like Germany did in the film "W.T.I.N about their Nazi and the extermination of one demographics. In order for them to not continue to repeat the past history and to bring the country as one? Well first I think American wouldn't teach or admit to their racist and savage roots. Because it would be cutting into people's money and their family generation money. The people in power and people with a lot of money probably have family ties leading back to Americas racist and savage ways. Company of sorts would loss millions or even billions of dollars if people found out about their dark past history and money made of a slaves free labor. The reason why I think America should teach and admit to their racist and savage roots. Because it will give the mass public a better understand why African Americans are mad, sad and anger about their treatment of their people of the course of time. Also what their people had to experience by being transported to this country and being implemented into society. Also it would solve a lot of the issues that plague communities, workforce and the human interactions in daily life. Also can American could be more productive and positive. Because when people are happy they like to work. Topic: Labor Laws Research Question: Should employers and corporations in the U.S.A implement the labor laws an seen in the movie "What to Invade Next", where employee's get paid in full for parental/maternal leave up to or exceed 5 months and also received employee a 13th salary at the end of the year? Argument: Should or Should not employers and corporations in the U.SA implement the labor laws as seen in the film " What to Invade Next", where employee's get paid in full for parental/maternal leave up to or exceeding 5 months and also employee's receive a 13th salary at the end of the year? Well first I think employers and corporations should implement the labor laws and seen in film "What to Invade Next, when Michael Moore invaded Italy. Because it would make people happy to come to work and more productive. Like for instance getting that 13th salary at the end year. That would cover all the money people had spent over the holiday's and allow employee's to have money in your pocket for the new year. Also the 13th salary can paid for vacation, bills, clothes, eating out etc. It would also be good if U.S employers and corporations implemented the labor laws as seen in the film "What to Invade Next. Because i think mother should be able to stay home and recover. Paying mother up to or exceeding 5 months helps the mother to save for daycare and to get to know her child and bond with them. Because usually women are single mothers or don't have the money to pay for daycare after birth so, this 13th salary would help out tremendously. The reason's why I think employer's and corporations would not implement the labor laws as seen in film "What To Invade Next". It's because they would look at the money that has to cover these new rules would take money after from their money. Let for example, the 13th salary labor law. That would never happen because employer's and corporations giving out another salary without any work attached to, would be absurd. Employer's and Corporations would also never allow and paid for maternal/ parental up to or exceeding 5 months. Is because they want to work the women until she almost 7 - 8 months pregnant. They would want her back as soon as that baby comes out, so the women can make more money for them. Also some companies would probably say to the women who had the pregnancy, "No one told you to have another baby, we need to back to work or else". With no care that she just had the baby and she has probably been working for that company for 5 years or more. So any extra money that companies and employer's have to kick out, would be look upon as a loss for the business. And the businesses are in business to make money and not to loss money. This a link for you to look at my work on documentary Where to Invade Next This blog post is inspired by events in the documentary "Where to Invade Next" produced film director Micheal Moore. It is a documentary about how the American government approached about how to solve some of most talked about issues. Like Health Care Reform, College Education debt, Labor Law, Women Right, Decriminalizing Drugs, Our judicial system and abortions etc. So he took flight to foreign countries such as France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Finland, Portugal, Slovenia, Iceland and Tunisia South Africa. His plan is travel to international land and invade there soil and take some of their resources, ideas and polices to bring back to the states to solve our problems. And what he discovers will surprise and blow his mind. In the documentary "Where to Invade Next, Michael Moore plans to fictitiously invade foreign soil on request from the American government. They approached Michael Moore in desperation because they need more answer to solve some major issues, that American can't themselves out off. To help improve our social and economics problems. He touches on the chronic issues that Americans have been dealing with since the beginning of time. Issues such as Health Care, Decriminalizing Drugs,Education, Labor Rights, Women Right and much more. So while in international lands he carries the America flag and plants it at the spot where he has successfully invading in a humorous way. And at times in the movie his reactions to what he has been told, leaves him in total shock and disbelief. But come to find out that all of the inner workings and structure of their perfect systems, came from the United States model of the way they should carry out their polices. So in retrospect is America holding up their end of the bargain. But who is to say that these ideas and laws won't be a reality for us in the near future. Truthfully they have already start adopting some of the ideas by decriminalizing marijuana, so maybe this is a look into what is to come. How does Michael Moore establish ethos? Well his credibility comes from his previous films like Fahrenheit 9/11, Sicko and Bowling for Columbine. His way of bringing the truth through facts, legal officials and public opinion. He is also an American citizen living in the reality of this harsh land and has 2 views from a citizens side and from someone in a position to spread awareness. How does Michael Moore use logos? He uses logos by presenting the differences of what happens in the states, compared to what happens abroad. He would the differences by using videos and text. How does Michael Moore appeal to pathos? He appeals to audiences emotions by using music and visuals. Like the scene when he show's the inner workings of an American jail and how a inmate was being beaten by the guards. He paired that scene with some somber music. And the scenes where he was in the international community the music was upbeat and pleasant. Making you feel some sense of happiness and no worry. What is Michael Moore's telos? Micheal Moore purpose was to show how other countries handle their social and economics ills, in comparison to the U.S. And by these countries uses their methods, transformed their peoples total quality of life and self development. Also to inform that people live longer by enriching their lives. What is the kairos of this film? The setting of the film was to demonstrate that American is desperate for answers from anyone that can solve our social and economic problems. And that maybe travel abroad will have all the answers to our problems. If we try people with dignity, respect and love anything is possible. . This short story is from Ernest Hemingway called Hills Like White Elephants. Its about a man and women waiting for an express train to Barcelona while getting drinks at bar, that was at train station. And how she stares out window and sees the mountains threw the trees outside the bar that looks like an white elephants skins.
Also she may not have the money to raise a child an be force to do things in order to survive and provide for her child. But maybe if they think about a little longer and not jump too soon maybe their love could work.
Their was a time in my life when I had to move from my girlfriend house back home with parents. Because while being in relationship with my girlfriend had 4 kids, and 2 of them were bad seeds. I was 23 years old and she was 30 years old. I never judged her for have 4 kids because i can't judge somebody, because I'm not GOD. So as lived with her i noticed the 2 youngest child were unmanageable and disobedient. You would have to tell the numerous time to stop doing this and stop doing that. After a while it puts a strain on you and you say to yourself " I hate these kids!!!" Their was a time that I told her youngest son to stop playing around and on the glass table that was in living room. I remember I told him stop playing with the glass table and he reply's "You not my daddy". A few moments later the glass tablet was chattered into little pieces. When his Mom came home she warmed that tail up for braking the glass tablet. So the last straw was me coming home late night and coming home to notice that it was crayons, notebooks, clothes and everything on my side of bed and one of her kids was sleep in my spot. That was it, I grab my things and when back home to parents and realize that i bite off more then i could chew.
Yes, I do agree with their decision to deceive her grandmother partially. Because they were only doing what they taught to do and what was culturally accepted. Because in China it is the rule for doctors to give the bad news to family members, rather than to person especially if the older. With the notion that the person might die or have heart attack, by hearing the life changing news. Lulu Wang aunt was very concern about telling her sister the bad news. Because she thinks tell her sister the new would devastate her. Having her sister unable to eat, sleep and lose interest in life. By not telling her grandmother was a way of prolonging her life. Lulu Wang stated that “The Chinese believe that mental and emotional health are completely linked to physical health”. So that was the whole premise of them lying to their grandmother, with the faith that is will cure their love one. The doctors only gave her grandmother 3 month or less to live. So they came up with an elaborate plan of getting everyone in the family together to see her before she dies. So her cousin Liang-Liang was getting married the following year, but so everyone could see her grandmother before she dies they just put the date up for the wedding 10 months early. So in order to do this her Aunt had to fake medical records and disguise the bad in the document as the “9 shadows”. Her aunt believes that her sister would appreciate that the family was lying to her. Because her grandmother herself lied to everyone also, that is how she knows she would have wanted them to lie to her also. In 2007 6 years before getting her present diagnoses she had breast cancer, and had a mastectomy. And she was wearing a prosthetic breast for 9 years. In Chinese believe they have this saying called chongxi. Chong means to rinse out and xi means joy. They believe you can just wash out misfortune and replace it with joy. So by them lying to her their grandmother it has prolong her life 3 years and counting. So I guess Chinese tradition really works. Also with some help from some expensive probiotics that their Uncle brought from Japan. But I also think someone should know that they are dying so they came tie up loose ends, maybe mend relationships and squash grudges they having been wanting to do but wasn’t the right time. And this is the perfect time to do so. Plus to prepare the family for your departure and to tell things to your family you want them to know before you live this world.
So there was a time in college when I lied and it cost me to being kicked out of the dorms. Well going to college in California I became friends with some students that just started at the school. So as we find things to do in the dorms, we thought it would be a good idea to go get some beer and bring it back to the dorms. But was we were sadly mistaken that we could boldly walk onto campus, right in front of Chief of public safety with a beer cover in brown paper bag. So we all walked down to the neighborhood beer and liquor store got beer. So the new freshmen and other students go to walk into campus, then Chief of Public Safety stop the freshmen’s in their tracks and taken the beer from out the paper bag. The freshmen students got kicked out the dorms and had only 2 weeks to finds somewhere to live off campus. So me being young and dumb I thought it would be a smart idea to fake like a had beer in a paper bag, after my homies just got pinched the other day for the same thing. So I go to the beer store and buy a Arizona Ice Tea and get it put in paper bag just like the beer from the other day. Then I walked back to dorms entering the back entrance way and as I walk through an I boldly show the paper bag with Ice Tea with in it as I show my I.D. I then started to argue with the Chief of Public yelling at him. I was pushing the Chief’s button by calling him a dickhead, then at that time he had had it. Before I could say sike! “ It’s just an Ice tea!!! He was like you’re finished, then the same day was kicked out of dorms living out of hotel. So by me lying about a beer being in a bag, it got me kicked out of dorms. My Name is Margaret (Maya Angelou).Hello readers, this blog is about the short story that author Maya Angelou called "My name is Margaret". It is a tale about two black female servants( Margaret and Miss Glory) working for a rich, old, wealth fat white woman, that can't have any children named Ms. Voila Cullinan. So both of the servants have been working for the women for some time now, and one day Ms. Cullinan broke the number one rule, Don't display any form's of racism, derogatory statements about an black person. Let alone right in front if their face! Oh no that's wrong thing to do, so be careful go at your own risk. What if this happens at your job, what do you do?
Because it is hard enough being black, let alone being a black women at that. So she had to stand for what she believed in, so she made her point and made Ms. Culllian feel some pain by breaking her favorite dishware.
This is my store of when I worked at TJMAXX backroom unloading and separating the merchandise for the whole store. So working in the backroom with conditions that may have been harmful to your health, because we was working under an Grocery Store. There was several leaks coming from the ceiling of the store dispelling some sort of liquid. They had someone rig up sort of drainage system piece together with an tarp , connected with holes draining the liquid into a trash can. So a few months passed an they still haven fix the leaks in the ceiling. So there was a day in the summer when the leaks start pop up in areas where the tarp wasn't at and the liquids would drop on your head. I went back to management to tell them about the new leaks, and they simply said "Go back to work!". So I stormed away angry about what they just had said to me, without any regards about the health of their workers or my discomfort. So i when into one of then bents that we sort hats into and put it on my head. Some coworkers were saying "Oh your getting in trouble". I reply " I don't care until they fix these leaks this is what i will be doing". Then here comes the store manager walking into the backroom, she says 'Hey take that hat off!". I reply " No until yall fix these leaks I will be wearing the store merchandise. Because i don't know what in the stuff leaking on my head!. She gave me a blind stare and ask me to walk her to the office. When we arrived in office she said that she understood why i was mad. She then said that she would allow me to wear my own hat until they can fix the leaks in the backroom.
